The whole Introvert vs Extrovert thing got me thinking so I decided to post an example I was witness to.
Introvert got assigned to a project. It was a website/merchandising project, but huge in range.
CIO had only one two demands – he told him: You need to finish this project ASAP and internal designer will take over design.
Project was one of the biggest company ever had, and time frame was little. So Introvert assigned small team to this project, internal people with knowledge, and they started well. They defined logic, they were working with all internal departments, Finance was one of them and CFO was glad.
Then Designer was assigned to the project, he didn’t have any knowledge of the internet and instead of producing a project that was usable nothing happened. Then after a while, he did produce some form of a product but was not for the web. Introvert being frustrated went to see CIO and talked about his problems but didn’t got any support. So introvert found a way to make design better by talking to some external company who prepared idea. He went to designer with this idea, presented and while designer didn’t approve” idea straight away, he start changing parts so that CIO would accept design idea as his. So after a lot of struggle design was approved.
Design was taking way too much time (5 months) so after 11 months or so, only 3 months before project would get finished, CIO assigned extrovert as a a project leader.
While introvert had some issues with this, ego hurt and self-esteem was at it’s low, he got around it and wished well to the guy who replaced him.

So extrovert in his new role, his first action was to invite introvert to a lunch with his new employee, a very beautiful lady. After a lunch he started making faces and his last sentence was you see, I took over your project, after I am done I will take over your job. Wow. What a man.
So he read some articles one the web about Google, spiders crawling for content, optimization and some Facebook marketing.
First meeting with senior people – CEO included, he had monologue about Google and the world, how he would optimize the page to rank as first, and make it the best in the world…
Most of the people listened to him, looking him as a god, and then, the more he talked the more he was proud of him self.
He was promising deadlines of 1 maybe 2 months.
He didn’t cooperate with internal teams at all, he ignored CFO and other teams.
First meeting he had with website vendor he started shouting on them, that he is to be respected.
He hired external company (mostly inexperienced people working there) as adviser to the project.
Comments and suggestions from external company were so basic that website vendor didn’t know what to say. Should they smile or say something?
Extrovert didn’t like website vendor, not because they were bad, but because they didn’t adore him.
So he decided to create 3 other websites, with other vendors, handpicked by him, you know some one who would adore him, once complete he would be able to say, look CEO, team before me, made one, half-baked site, in the same period i created 3 and they all make money, a lot of money, now I am the king and should get a hefty bonus…
Fast forward 6 months:
3 websites were created, 10 people were employed, filling the products, pictures… They had massive Ad campaign…
Nothing, they sell 1 – product per day.
In the meantime he ran a couple of meetings showing off, teaching attendees laws of Facebook, they made a survey about people who are shopping online – by them self and as soon they presented this survey, most of the attendees didn’t agree with it and once revealed how they got a survey, they changed the subject to some other matters. Everything was about this guy and his team, even though data presented wasn’t accurate they presented it. When asked when main website will be online, he always changed the subject to some other topic and promised soon, soon.
Fast forward 4 months:
Main website (the one first started) is running, but only after CEO went mad and demanded that everything that is being done in extrovert team is put on hold and that everybody focuses on original website. But that was too late, damage was already done, extrovert and his team spent another 3 times of money of original website for additional 3 websites, consulting, new team for running this new sites, his websites still don’t make any money, in fact it’s a pure loss.
It would be interested to see what would happen if extrovert was first assigned to a project and introvert would take over extroverts job.
